2nd May

Steve & Liz Burston

Hi everyone,

Well we certainly had the range of weather this week. I (Steve) made the mistake of running in the rain and I can tell you – hail hurts!

Things to highlight for you in this coming week,:

St Johns Online Services on Sunday 1st May - These continue in our regular pattern of 9.30am, 11.30am and a call to prayer at 6pm – (this weeks focus will be Hope Health Action and oversee mission) all available here
And 9:30 Service Sheet here: Easter 4sj (002).pdf

VE Services Online from St John's –
this Friday, a Bank Holiday, marks the 75th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War in Europe. There was due to be a service followed by a street party in the High Street. We felt it was important to mark it. So we will be on YouTube and Facebook live at 10.30am ending with a two minute silence and then again at 2.30pm ending with a toast of celebration! Henry Smith MP, the Mayor of Crawley, the British Legion, the Armed Forces Breakfast Club and our local Prince of Wales Unit are all making a contribution. Please join us online as we remember those that have gone before, remember those that are still coping with the effects of war and celebrate when adversity was overcome!

We're carrying on running the Alpha course on Wednesday evenings – In fact as you invite a friend we will start a new course whenever is needed. It is never too late to invite and sign up. It's the best Netflix series you could ever do in your life! Thanks Becky Hailes for the amazing testimony of how Alpha changed your life!  For more information click here

Marriage Course

4500 people have signed up to do this amazing course in London since the lockdown and now 49 couples locally here at St John's. Last night Will and Sian Moulder, our wonderful hosts, introduced the theme of the Art of Communication. This is a difficult time for relationships in the lockdown and the course offers some tools and insights that might help. In the same way as Alpha, the Marriage Course will remain open and we start a new course as demand dictates. So if you are doing the current course and its helping, then tell a couple you know to sign-up or if you just know a couple who might benefit, be bold and invite them too. For more information click here.

We're continuing to play our part in connecting with those around us, and especially our local community here in Crawley. Thank you, thank you -  for all those involved from praying, home schooling, phoning others as a friend, making sandwiches for the hostels, delivering food parcels for the Easter Team, delivering prescriptions for local chemists, shopping and so many other things.

Thanks so much for being part of St John's, we miss seeing you so much and in the words of Vera Lynn (World Time Classic – for those too young to know);

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away

God bless

Steve and Liz and the St John's team
